The Pacific Sutera Hotel welcomed its first female General Manager.

Sigrid Stelling brings with her more than 25 years of hospitality experience to Sutera Harbour Resort, having worked with previous appointments in Europe and Asia.

Originally from Germany, she began her career with Accor in Germany after graduating from the University of Applied Science in Munich.

Sigrid’s first debut in South East Asia was with Chateau de Bangkok, a Sofitel associated Serviced Apartment in Thailand as the General Manager before moving to Shanghai, China as the Resident Manager of the Sofitel Hyland.

Returning to Germany in 2000, she joined Marriott International and was appointed General Manager for Courtyard by Marriott in Berlin. Seven years later, she moved back to Thailand where she oversaw the opening of Courtyard by Marriott at Patong Beach, Phuket and continued to manage Courtyard by Marriott Hua Hin at Cha Am Beach from 2009 to 2012.

Prior to joining our family, Sigrid was based in Sri Lanka to open the first Avani Hotels & Resort in Bentota and Kalutara. We were all smiles when she said, “I enjoy working in Asia and I am excited to become a part of the wonderful Sutera Harbour Resort.”

For those of you who are unaware, the Clippers are part of the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race which is the world’s longest ocean race at 40,000 mile journey across six continents. The race began in London, UK on September 1, 2013 and is set to complete its circuit on July 12, 2014. It is the only race in the world that sees organisers supply 12 identical 70-foot stripped down racing yachts – each sponsored by a brand.

The event sees crew members ranging from all backgrounds including taxi drivers, chief executives, students, bankers, doctors and even rugby players. Although the crews may be amateur, they are led safely around the globe by a fully-qualified skipper.

Both racing yachts arrived safely from Singapore with different reasons. Jamaica Get All Right had a quick refuelling stop before pushing on to Subic Bay in the Philippines to replace their faulty bottlescrew. As for OneDLL, nicknamed ‘Big Blue’, the yacht diverted here due to a family bereavement of one of their crew member.

At approximately 7.00pm this evening, Jamaica and OneDLL continued their race to QingDao, China with a stopover in Hong Kong.

We wish them best of luck and may the winds be in their favour.
